Sacrificial Smile (Original Poem)

Let them breathe clean air and sunshine
Let them drink from gilded teacups
Let them grow wings and touch the sky
Be their sun and their gold and their feathers

Never tell them the sunshine burns you
Never tell them you bled for the gold
Never tell them you once had wings
Do not weep when they smile past you
