As a perfectionist myself, this is such an encouraging reminder.


Perfect is a funny little word. When you read this post, it will be perfect.

When you see that word, perfect, I can’t quite pin down how I feel. Defensive? Nobody’s perfect, after all. Ambitious? Practice makes perfect, they say. Depressed? Unfortunately, perfection is unattainable. That little word haunts me, pushes me, and frustrates me to no end. No matter how hard I try, I will never be perfect. As a perfectionist, that’s a hard concept. I want to fix things, to improve them, to make them perfect. And yet perfect seems like a mirage— just there to drive me mad.

Maybe, though, perfection isn’t how it seems. After all, the word just comes from the Latin perficere— to complete. If you think about it, that’s what perfection really is— just being completely finished, with no flaws or errors. Perfection means being done. That raises an interesting…
